It was a -one room school house, church centered- childhood, where daily chores were required and formed her hard working honest and loyal character. Her working years started in a garment factory sewing in Tennessee. Some time after her marriage to Howard Lewis in 1938 they moved to Detroit, Michigan.

Most recently, she owned and operated "Ruby's Salon" on Grosebeck.
Ruby played softball and basketball in her youth and was an avid League bowler for the last 50+ years, having wrapped up her final season this last March. She was a Tigers and Pistons fan, wathcing them regulary on TV.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years and participated in a lot of social events with the congreation.
