HAMPTON - Robert Lee Garrett, 76, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998. He was a native of Williamsburg and had been a Peninsula resident all of his life. Mr. Garrett retired from the Sheet Metal Department of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. after more than 20 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of both the East Hampton Presbyterian Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Lee Garrett. Mr. Garrett is survived by one daughter, Lois Garrett Carter of Clayton, N.C.; one son, Don G. Garrett of Hampton; one brother, T.B. Garrett of Newport News; and six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday by the Rev. Michael Condrey at Hampton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Riverside Hospice Program.
