From the Soldier's Records of the Missouri State Archives: George enlisted in the Civil War as a Private November 1, 1863, at Melville (Dadeville), MO, under Captain Howard. He was mustered in August 27, 1864 at Springfield, MO. He mustered out July 1, 1865, also at Springfield, MO.
It is believed George died sometime around 1880. Wife Margaret filed for a widow's pension June 29, 1880. From Ancestry.com records -- the contract for George's gravestone was made September 5, 1891 supplied by Gross Brothers of Lee, Massachusetts.
