Daughter of Jesse B. Garrett. Her mother was a Webb, first name unknown.

In Brushy Cemetery are three worn monuments with the names: I. Copeland, M.J. Copeland, and T. Jeff Copeland (1861-1936). These three monuments are for Isabel Garrett Copeland and her two children, Mary J., and Thomas J. Copeland.

Isabel Copeland is first shown on public records on the 1850 U.S. Federal Census in Sulfur Springs Township, Montgomery Co., Arkansas. She is enumerated in this census as Isabel Garrett, age 17. She is living with Mary Garrett, age 18, who is head of household, and Lewis Garrett, age 14.

In the 1860 U. S. Federal Census in Southfork Township, Montgomery Co., Arkansas, Isabel, age 26, married by now, is the spouse of Shelton Copeland, 28, and they have two children, James E., age 8, and Martha E., age 3. Shelton's occupation is farmer.

During the American Civil War, 1861- 1865, it appears Shelton either enlisted or was drafted into the service. He served as a Private in Hardy's Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, CSA. Isabell filed a widow's pension application on February 21, 1874. Shelton's record states he was E. 4th Ark. Calvary

Isabel is shown on the 1870 U. S. Federal Census in South Fork Township, Montgomery Co., Arkansas as head of household. She is widowed and has the following children living with her: James E., 17, Martha E., 13, Thomas J., 10, and Mary J., 10. Isabel's occupation is keeping house. She is unable to read or write.

By the time of the 1880 U. S. Federal Census, Isabel, age 46, has moved with three of her children to the Oden area and is shown in Polk Township in Montgomery Co., with these three children living with her: Martha, 22, Thomas, 20, and Mary, 20.

By 1900, Isabel, 65, is living in the household of her son, Thomas J. Copeland, 36, whose occupation is farmer. There are no other people in the household. Isabel's record states she has given birth to five children with just two living in 1900.

The 1910 U. S. Federal Census in Polk Township in Montgomery Co., Arkansas, the last time Isabel is shown on public records, shows her as age 86 (age incorrect, correct age is 76) and she is living with her son, Thomas J. Copeland, 47, who is listed as head of household. There are no other family members besides these two.

Isabel is not shown on records after 1910. Her monument has the faint date of 1912
as her death date. It is hard to make out but it does appear to be 1912, making her age at death 77 or 78.
