"Mrs Addie Emerson Gates - Mrs Addie Emerson Gates, widow of C B Gates, died at her home about two miles southwest of the Diamond, at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, following a brief illness with pneumonia. She was nearly 49 years of age, having been born at Grand Valley on Sept 15, 1874, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Charles Emerson. She was united in marriage with Mr Gates at Frewsburg, NY, in 1890, and to them were born ten children, nine of whom survive, as follows: Fred and Gilbert Gates of Titusville, Robert Gates of Strattonville, Mrs H C Frederick of Oil City, Mrs T W Downs of Boyers, Pa, Clarence, Livingstone, Nellie and Alice Gates, all at home. She also leaves a brother, Abraham Emerson of Pleasantville and a sister, Mrs John Loomis of Grand Valley. She was a member of the Fairview Methodist Episcopal church and held in high esteem by all who knew her. Services in her memory will be held on Tuesday at 2 pm at the Fairview church and the interment will be in the cemetery at that place."

It was also stated in the account of the death of Mrs Gates that both of her parents were dead, but her mother, Mrs Ellen Emerson, survives."

"Mrs Abigail Emerson Gates - Services in memory of Mrs Abigail Emerson Gates were conducted at 2:30 pm yesterday from the family home at Fairview, Rev A A Hickok, pastor of the Titusville Wesleyan Methodist church officiating. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends and many floral tributes laid upon the casket. Music for the service was provided by Mrs Robert Mitchell and Mrs D E Olson, who sang 'Safe in the Arms of Jesus,' and 'One Sweetly Solemn Thought." The interment was made in the Fairview cemetery, the following acting as pall bearers: Thomas Peebles, Clarence Hancox, Oliver and Norman Strawbridge, Robert Burgey and Ernest Strawbridge. Those in attendance from a distance included Robert Gates of Strattonville, Mr and Mrs W T Downs and daughter, Mildred, of Boyers, Mrs John Loomis, Mr and Mrs Thurman Loomis, Milo Emerson and Mrs Carrie Young of Grand Valley, Mr and Mrs Abram Emerson and family of Plumer, Mr and Mrs Luther Eddy and Richard Emerson of the Spring Creek road."
