POSTEN

Mrs. N.J. Posten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Odle, was born in Washington County, Arkansas, in 1852, where she resided with her parents until 1861, when the family removed to Texas. She was married to J.J. Posten in 1871, and the family came to this city to reside eight years ago. The deceased passed away December 6 after a brief illness of pneumonia following an attack of influenza. Mrs. Posten, never very strong, had been nursing other members of her family through the epidemic, and when attacked herself had slight resistive ability. She was the mother of five children, one of whom died in infancy, the others all living, four being present at the mother's funeral: J.C. Posten of Clifton, Texas; Mrs. W.K. Moore of New Healdton, Okla.; Mrs. J.D. Lewis of Nobo, Okla.; and Miss Hattie of this place, who with the husband and father are left to mourn the loss of the truest and best of mothers and wives.

Mrs. Posten was a quiet and unassuming woman, "one who looked well after the affairs of her household," but a woman who so thoroughly incorporated the teachings of Christ in her life as to be a veritable mother of Israel to the younger members of the Church of Christ in this city, of which she was a member, having united with the church at the early age of seventeen and having been true and faithful all the years since to her religious belief.
With unfailing patience and charity towards all, her life and character were felt by all with whom she came in contact and will not soon be forgotten. Truly it might be said of her that she was one of God's own women and the life that she lived will not soon be forgotten. The sympathy of the host of friends is extended to the bereaved family.
