Rosenberg Herald, October 14, 1949:

Ed L. Behrens, age 76 years, passed away Saturday morning, October 8, 1949, at 9:20 a.m. at the Schuhmann Hospital in East Bernard. Mr. Behrens was born on February 27, 1873. He was married to Miss Helena Koym on October 26, 1893.

He is survived by his wife, Helena Behrens of Beasley; three sons, Ben L. Behrens of Beasley, Barney Behrens of Beasley, and Roy Behrens of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Cora Meyer of Beasley and Miss Viola Behrens of Houston; three brothers, W.R. Behrens of East Bernard, Emil Behrens of Giddings, and John Behrens of Gonzales; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Buls of Tavener and Mrs. Annie Dunk of Giddings; one foster son, Arthur A. Hingst of East Bernard; and five grandchildren, Johnnie Edward Meyer, Janis Lee Behrens, Vernell Meyer, Bobbie Behrens, and Larry Behrens; besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in East Bernard, with Rev. R.D. Jonte of the Crockett Methodist Church of Galveston and Rev. Stewart Odell of East Bernard officiating. Pallbearers were Ed Foster, Bill Koym, Willard Behrens, Monroe Behrens, Edwin Buls, and C.B. Stuessy. Burial was in the East Bernard Methodist Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of the Foerster Funeral Home.
