Jacob was the son of Jacob and Susanna (Mann) Gable. He married Elizabeth Machamer on April 10, 1828 in Union Co., Pennsylvania. They had thirteen children: Susannah Goodrich, Mary Phillips, Daniel, Henry, Christina Timms, Jacob, John, Relala, Ellen Burbridge, Sarah Andrew Thorp, Rebecca Spiller, Catherine Oberdorf and Margaret. Jacob and Elizabeth came to Illinois in 1843. Jacob, who was known as Squire Gable, was a Justice for many years. He was Captain of Company 6, 43 Pennsylvania Militia.
