The following story is from Allen Zwingli Stutzman, grandson of Polly Hersh.

The "Widow Hersh" married Abraham Bressler bringing to that marriage a daughter, Polly, and a granddaughter, Mary. All records show that Abraham Bressler married Rebecca Adams.

1850 Census - Abraham (b. 1818) and wife Peggy (b. 1820) (This may have been an error, as Rebecca's nickname was "Becky") had 3 children: Albert b. 1846, Illegible? b. 1848, and Sarah 5/12 age b. 1850.There is no mention of Richard (b. 1848) or Rebecca (b. 1849). Some family circle members have Abraham married to Salome.

1860 Census - Abraham and wife Rebecca b. 1816 were listed with the following children: Albert age 10 (should have been 14); Sarah age 7 (should have been 10); Richard b. 1848; Rebecca b. 1849); Catherine b. 1851; Elizabeth b. 1855; Robert b. 1858; Mary Hersh b. 1838 [This is the Polly Hersh that was the child of the "Widow Hersh"; Mary Reed b. 1858 [This is the illegitimate child of Polly Hersh]

There is no record of Susan Bressler, but she is said to have died in childhood. This could have been the Illegible? Name from the 1850 Census.

1870 Census - All of the above named children are living with Abraham Bressler; an addition to the family is Alice Shall (Snell), illegitimate daughter of Polly Hersh)

1880 Census - Rebecca is a widow and Robert, Polly, and Alice are living with her. All are using the name Bressler. Polly and Alice are both listed as daughters of Rebecca.

The death certificate of Polly Hersh lists her parents as Rebecca Adams and Henry Hersch.

Mary Malinda "Maggie" Reed married Isaac H. "Ike" Morgan. Her death certificate lists her parents as Polly Hersh and Levi Reed. Some records list Mary's name as Mary Magdalena.

Alice Snell married Andrew Jackson Stutzman.

The documents seem to bear our the story of Allen Zwingli Stutzman.
