HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Ruth Stone went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday May 27, 2012 at the age of 100 years and 11 days. Ruth Greenfield was born near Hermleigh, Texas on May 16, 1912. She and her 10 siblings were raised on the family farm. Ruth graduated from Canyon High School in 1930 and West Texas State in 1934. She taught for a few years in West Texas then relocated to take a teaching position in Pharr, Texas.

Soon thereafter Ruth met Carl C. Stone whom she married in the summer of 1941. Carl and Ruth settled in Donna, Texas and raised their three boys; Tom, Larry, and Stan, in a house on Hester Street. Ruth taught fifth grade for 17 years before retiring in 1976. She was a devout Christian and member of the Donna First United Methodist Church from 1948 until her death.

During her lengthy retirement Ruth kept busy with church, needle point, and visiting shut ins. She was a skilled scrabble player and a die-hard Donna Redskin and Dallas Cowboy fan. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Eans Greenfield and Martha Ilura Woodfin and 10 of her siblings; her husband Carl Stone, and her eldest son Tom Stone.

Surviving family members include Larry and Ellen Stone, of Edinburg; Stan and Susie Stone, of Huntsville; Cliff and Strider Stone and Lana Bailey, of Austin; Brett, Liz, Lanie, and Emily McCown, of Seguin; Sharlie Stone, of New Braunfels; and Sean Stone of Spring, Texas.

A memorial service at Donna First United Methodist Church on Monday June 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, North Hwy 88.

The family thanks Janie Arguijo, Nora McBride, and the Lexington Assisted Living Center in Huntsville, Texas for the loving care they provided to Ruth in her final years.
