John was 20 years old when he came to Utah . He and his wife joined the Church in Scotland and were able to come because of the help of the Perpetual Emigration Fund. They worked hard after they arrived to make a home and pay back what they had borrowed. John was a good farmer and made a good living at that, and he also raised horses, which he loved. He was active in the church and in the community. They lived in Little Cottonwood for a time. Then they moved to Cedar Fort where they remained for a couple of years, before moving on to Wellsville , where they lived out their lives.
