"WILLIAM G. CRANMER
Former City Surveyor Ill for Twelve Days
After an illness dating from a paralytic stroke twelve days ago, William C. Cranmer, former City Surveyor, who made the first plan of the Parkway and surveyed the line of the Market street subway, died at his home, 1915 North Twenty-third street yesterday. He was in his seventy-eighth year.
Cranmer was in employ of the city as a surveyor and regulator for thirty-five years. Prior to his entry into the municipal service he was in the army engineer corps and also was engaged in railroad construction. He was a member of Melita Lodge, No. 205, F/ and A. M., and Mary Commandery, Knights Templar.
Previous to his Philadelphia experience, he did the preliminary work on the Kansas City Bridge, the park at Allegheny, Pa., harbor and fortification work for the United States Engineer Corps, assistant on location and construction for the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad, Philadelphia and Reading Railroad and branches of the Beech Creek Railroad.
He is survived by two sons, Clarence W. Cranmer and Allen L. Cranmer and a daughter, Mrs. May C. Sykes.
