Mark Knapp a Civil War veteran of nearly 93 years of age, one of the few remaining members of the brave men who fought to preserve the Union, died at his home a mile south of Wheatfield, Sunday morning. He was a member of the 147th Illinois infantry and served in the major conflicts of the war, being discharged Jan. 20, 1866.
He was pioneer of the Wheatfield Community. He was the father of nine children, eight of whom survive.

DIES AT HOME IN WHEATFIELD

CHESTERTON, Mar 16 -- Miss Edna Knapp received word Saturday of the death of her uncle, Mark Knapp, 92, Wheatfield, Ind. Death was due to old age. Mr Knapp was born on a farm east of Chesterton, the son of Mr and Mrs Isaac Knapp and when a young man purchased a farm near Wheatfield, where has since made his home. He was a brother of the late Walter Knapp, this city. Eight children survive, his wife having preceded him in death about 4 years ago.

Funeral services were held at Wheatfield this afternoon and attending from here was Miss Knapp. Mr and Mrs Vernon Knapp and son James Beloit, Wis, who are visiting with Miss Knapp for a few days, also attended.
