Edward came to America in 1856 with his parents. His father died two weeks after arriving in Iowa . In 1864 , Edward left home and worked in mining in Colorado . In 1865 he moved to Utah , working on the railroad until the golden spike was driven. He joined the Mormon Church in 1866 and made several trips to Missouri to bring immigrants to Utah . He helped with the building of the Salt Lake Temple. After his marriage to Katherine , they had two children, both of whom died. After the death of his wife, he married again. In 1877 , he was called to help colonize Arizona . It took them two years to get there. He bought a farm in Lehi, Maricopa, Arizona . He helped build a canal and did a lot of freighting. He held many civil and church callings. In 1902 the family moved to the Big Horn area of Wyoming where he bought land which proved to be oil land. In 1915 , he bought a home in Salt Lake City where they lived until his death in 1927 .
