He was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Flowerfield Township, a son of Charles and Maude (GREINER) WALTZ. He attended the Oak Plains Country School in Flowerfield.

On Dec. 31, 1932, he married Hilda REYNOLDS in Goshen, Ind. She preceded him in death on July 23, 1987.

Ray worked as a Powerhouse Engineer for Ross Labs in Sturgis for 21 years, retiring in 1973. He had previously been employed at Eddy Paper Co. and Fairbanks Morris in Three Rivers and worked the family farm.

Ray was a 60 year member of the Centreville United Methodist Church and a member of the Join Us Class, a life member of the Masonic Lodge #57 and the Eastern Star #210, both of Three Rivers. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard and garden. Ray also maintained an orchard for many years.

Surviving are; his daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Chris CHRISTOPHERSON of Centreville; a grandson, Larry Sr. and Teresa SHINGLEDECKER, Centreville; two granddaughters, Debra and Bob MAESTAS, Sturgis, and Karen and Richard JENKINS, Angola, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Larry Jr. (Brooke) SHINGLEDECKER of Centreville, Heather JENKINS of Montgomery, Mich., Amy (Joe) WICKEY of Centreville, and Melissa MAESTAS of Sturgis; a brother, George WALTZ, Three Rivers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; a brother, Guy WALTZ; and a sister, Neva AVERY.
