Carol L. Powers passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023. She was born June 10, 1939 to Carroll F. Grady and Althea L. Davidson Grady.

Carol, a native of Vernon Parish, Louisiana was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles L. Powers and brother, David L. Grady.

A high school honor graduate, Carol received degrees from what is now UCA and Vanderbilt University having received a scholarship.

She began her career as a school librarian, became the first school library supervisor for the North Little Rock School District and served as chair of the School Library Division of the Arkansas Library Association.

She joined the faculty at UCA where she taught library science, served as vice president of the Faculty Council, served on various committees and sponsored student organizations. Carol served in numerous capacities including Acting Director of Torreyson Library, Assistant to the Director, head of public services. head of reference and was library liaison with the Friends of Torreyson Library. After 37 years she retired early from the profession she dearly loved.

As a member of Conway's First Baptist Church, Carol fondly remembered that young married lady's class and teaching third graders. She was active in the choir for many years, a member of the Alathean Sunday School class and was a group leader in Joy of Living Bible Study. She especially enjoyed the fellowship of and leading the ladies of Faith Life Group, where she loved to share inspiring and personal stories that led to the words of traditional hymns.

Carol served in many capacities with the Faulkner Co. Retired Teachers Association, including president and co-president. She received an Individual Achievement Award from the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, was a life member serving on state committees and on the six county, Area VI. As a member of Chapter E of the P.E.O. sisterhood she served in leadership positions. She served as President of the Oak Grove Cemetery Board and was a life member and President of the Friends of the Faulkner County Libraries. She received the Friend of the Year Award and was a life member of the Faulkner County Historical Society.

Carol was an avid reader, collected antiques and planned many enjoyable historic travels for her family. She enjoyed doing and helping others with genealogical research. Early in her career, before the use of computers, she often mentioned that, "If we only had libraries and no classrooms, learning would take place".

She was featured in the River Valley Edition of the Democrat Gazette as a person who wanted to stay involved and be of service through volunteering. She was honored to be featured again in the same paper as speaker for the dedication of the Historic Oak Grove Cemetery Columbarium. Even though she enjoyed many activities, she cherished most being a wife, a mother, a sister and an aunt.

She is survived by a daughter, Carma L. Powers of Conway; a brother, H. Dale Grady of Alexander, AR; four nieces and two nephews.

The family will have a private celebration of life.
