Neita Marie Brooks was born on April 20, 1910 at a dairy farm near Caldwell, Idaho and was the youngest of five children. She passed away May 30, 2012 at her home with her family by her side.

If you ever wondered about your teenager's driving habits, imagine an 11 year old (yes, 11)- named "Brooksy" by her classmates- behind the steering wheel of a "Willys Knight" car. Her father taught her to drive so she could take her mother to church on Sundays.

Neita accepted Christ at First Baptist Church of Caldwell, was baptized at the age of 14 and played the piano during worship. She was a founding member of the Second Baptist Church in Boise.

After high school, Neita took her first job as a receptionist for a local doctor. It wasn't long afterwards that she met a young, local man named Jerry who worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boise. She and Jerry married seven months later in July 1929. Only afterwards did their parents learn of the wedding (yes, they approved)! Their modest wedding in Nampa began a union that endured for over 68 years.

Neita, fondly known as "Nan" to her family, loved family gatherings! Her home of 62 years was always the place for family get-togethers; it didn't matter the reason, her home was home to all and family always came first.

Nan's favorite past-time was fishing. Although it didn't matter where, some of her favorite spots were Riggins and Stanley. She was always ready to go and often times was accompanied by her sisters and grandchildren.

Neita also enjoyed traveling. She and Jerry spent many winters traveling to California, Arizona, and Mexico with their travel trailer, meeting up with friends along the way. They also enjoyed extended trips to Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, Monaco, and Scotland with both friends and family.

One of the highlights of her life was Christmas 1996, when Jerry (Dadaw) bought her a bright red Mazda Miata. Both car lovers, Neita and Jerry loved to go for drives, and at 88 years old she really got a kick out of her personalized license plates that read "WERCRZY". On a couple of occasions, her driving was a little too enthusiastic and caught the eye of the local police. Once stopped and presented with her driver's license, revealing her age, the officer would usually chuckle and let her off with a warning, but not always.

In 1997, Neita lost the love of her life, Jerry, and for the next 15 years her favorite companion was her Ragdoll Persian cat, "Holly".

At age 98, following a hip replacement, the family thought it necessary for Neita to have a live-in caregiver, just to keep an eye on her. After interviewing many, Marlene Cotroneo was selected and proved to be like a loving granddaughter, as well as an excellent caregiver. The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to Marlene for her care and compassion she provided Nan; Marlene always exceeded the family's expectations.

Neita was so fortunate to see and experience so much. Her life of 102 years was a life well lived and lived right! We will always love you and miss you Nanny!

Neita is survived by her three sons, Gerald (Anita), of LaSelva, CA; Richard (Mona), of Boise, ID; and Jeffrey (Jonnie), of Boise, ID; as well as 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Neita was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; her dear and loving husband, Jerry; and her grandson, Patrick.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, June 4, 2012 at Cloverdale Memorial Park, Boise.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to your favorite charity in honor of Neita.
