JAMES C. ALLEN DEAD
James Campbell Allen, Civil War veteran and member of the Emporia post of the G.A.R., died at his home at Americus. No funeral arrangements have been made.
James C. Allen was born July 26, 1845 at Mill Village, Pa. He grew to young manhood in Pennsylvania and was married to Ellen St. John, October 19, 1869, at Erie county, Pennsylvania. Mr. Allen enlisted in the Union army September 5, 1864 and was assigned to Company 6, 211th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Infantry. He was wounded in action and sent to a base hospital. While he was recovering from his wound, Mr. Allen was detailed as a hospital attendant and became so proficient at dressing wounds he was permanently detailed as a nurse. Mr. Allen received his discharge from the army June 2, 1865, at Alexander, Va.
He came to Kansas with his family in 1884 and they settled on a farm 12 miles north of Burlington. in 1902 Mr. Allen brought his family to Emporia. Mr. Allen became a member of the Emporia Grace Methodist church and the Emporia post of the G.A.R. Mrs. Allen died April 16, 1922 in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Allen is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George Riley, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. N. K. Riley, of Americus; Mrs. Mary Belle Sines, of Tacoma, Wash.; one son, Frank Allen, of Reading; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

ALLEN FUNERAL SUNDAY
Funeral services for James C. Allen, Civil War veteran, who died Thursday morning at his home at Americus, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue chapel. Rev. J. C. Brogan, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

FUNERAL FOR VETERAN
Funeral services for James C. Allen, Civil War veteran, who died Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, three miles north of Americus, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue chapel. J. C. Brogan, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, will conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. John Endicott, of Americus. Pallbearers were Dave Farrebee, Wes Fowler, James Wilson, J. F. Gibson, Jacob Guld and L. K. Hunt. The following persons sang: Jess Hauk, Miss Lavon Myser, Mrs. Hattie Bruce and J. W. Myser. Mrs. Richard Bell was accompanist. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
