Phyllis Dorothy Dietrich of Clarks Green died Thursday night at her home. She was the widow of Herbert E. Dietrich, who died in 1977.

Born in Susquehanna, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Dorothy Boyden Tompkins. She was a resident of Clarks Green since 1955 and, prior to retirement, worked with Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit as a teacher for the hearing impaired. She was a member of Clarks Green United Methodist Church and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.

Phyllis earned her bachelor's degree at Marywood University and her master's degree at the University of Scranton. She was avid volunteer for Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, and Mountain View Care Center.

Phyllis was well-traveled, making friends everywhere she would go. She was in the Peace Corps, serving in Morocco for two years.

Surviving are three daughters, Diane Smith and husband, Robert, Clarks Summit; Donna Kamora, Factoryville; and Carol Paroby and husband, Raymond, Clarks Summit; two sons, Robert Dietrich and wife, Ling Li, Coltsneck, N.J.; and Richard Dietrich, Scranton; a sister, Eva Anne Short, Reading; eight grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Amy Dambach, William and Kevin Kamora, A.J. Dietrich, Rachel Seligman, Amanda Traver and Krista Dietrich; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Kilby.

She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Kamora.

A celebration of her life will be held June 9 at 2 p.m. in Clarks Green United Methodist Church, 119 Glenburn Road, Clarks Green. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp., at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp., PA 18411, or to Clarks Green United Methodist Church.
