Mrs. Gaskins was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Sylvester R. Humphries and Essie Rogers Humphries. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Lake City. Mrs. Gaskins had worked in the Lake City High School cafeteria and won awards for her cooking.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gaskins is preceded in death by her husband, Buie McQueen Gaskins; her daughter, Marie Gaskins McElveen; her son, Johnny L. Gaskins; her brother, Russell Humphries and her sister, Elona Lawrence.
Surviving are her sisters, Dannie H. Stone of Johnsonville and Alvilda Tanner of Summerton; her daughter-in-law, Annie Sue "Susie" Gaskins; her grandchildren, Janet McElveen (Wayne) Floyd of Lake City, David McElveen of Portland, OR, Jennifer "Jenny" Howell of Florence and Julie McElveen (Michael) Studt of West Harrison, IN; six great-grandchildren and two great-great –grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Liberty Baptist Church at 2771 Huggins Road in Lake City. Burial will follow in the Gaskins Family Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm on Sunday at the church.
