He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sissy; sister, Helen Eckman; sons, John (Jan) and Steve (Julia); granddaughters, Olivia Miller, Melissa (Jason) Lunde, Rebecca (Brandon) Chambers, and Hailey (Derek) McIalwain; and great grandchildren, Tyson Lunde, Kylee Lunde, and Camryn Chambers.
He was born and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey.
He served in the Navy during WWII as a radioman in China, member of Sino American Cooperative Organization (SACO).
After marrying Sissy, he became a professor of civil engineering at the University of WA where he taught for 32 years. A great parent/scoutmaster/lecturer, he became dear friends with many of his students, members of faculty, family, the Everett Golf and Country Club, and SACO. He was very active with teaching, traveling, golfing and skiing. After retiring he spent a lot of time in his extensive wood and metal shop creating many treasures. He and Sissy took many ski and cycling trips with what became known as The Adventure Club. His latter years were dedicated to caring for Sissy, dancing to Dixieland jazz, writing, and following the success of the Lake Stevens High School wrestling team. He became very committed to everything and everyone he was involved with.
His memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, WA 98042. Donations in his memory can be made to the Lake Stevens Wrestling Club, 2902 118th Dr. NE, Lake Stevens, WA, 98258, Tax ID #22196.
