Joseph M. Burns, age 80, of Memphis, passed away Wednesday May 30, 2012 at home following a long illness. He was born December 15, 1931 in Detroit the son of Joseph and Edna (Walker) Burns.

His marriage to Betty Dupont was July 9, 1960 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Emmett.

Joseph was a parishioner of Holy Family Parish, Memphis.

He was employed by General Motors Corporation Research Labs for 32 years until his retirement in 1998.

He was a 19-year Memphis School Board member, charter member of All Saints Knights of Columbus Council #10501 and a 4th Degree member of Assembly #480, Richmond.

Surviving in addition to his wife Betty of 51 years are:

His family honors the memory of Joseph and invites you to visit and share memories Friday, June 1st, 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Richmond, with rosary devotion at 7:00 p.m.

Rite of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Parish, Memphis, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Fr. Joseph Horn, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Joseph F. Burns Scholarship Fund c/o Memphis Public Schools.
