Mr. Wilhite was born in Kentucky, April 14, 1799. Before Missouri was admitted as a State in our Union, his father, Sampson Wilhite, became a resident of the Territory. This was in 1818. In 1822 he became a Christian and was baptized by Rev. Peter Woods. The church of which he became a member was then called Bethel. When only about 20 years of age he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth McQuitty. This union was blessed with several children. For some years prior to his death he was so afflicted with diseased nerves as to render continued labor in the ministry impossible. He died at his home near Walnut Grove Church, Boone County, March 1872. He was a true Christian,
a faithful minister, and one of Missouri's highly honored pioneers.
