Herbert Ellwood Chilcote, 69, of HCR 1 Box 54, Robertsdale, died at 5:32 p .m. Saturday, June 13, 1998, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness.
Born April 30, 1929, in Coles Valley, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Martin V. and Reba (Leader) Chilcote. He was married to the former Jossie Mae Collins Dec. 18, 1984, in Three Springs.
Surviving are his wife, at their home; five children: Joyce E. Ritchey, Robersdale, Kathie S. Stapleton, Dulley, Penny M. Brumbaugh, McConnellsburg, Terrie D. Smith, Summerville, and Martin E. Chilcote, Marion, N.C .; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A sister, Plantena R. Black, Martinsburg, also survives. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and one sister.

Mr. Chilcote was a member of the Coalmont Church of Christ where he served as a trustee and treasurer for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-54. He retired in 1987 as a mechanic at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, after 36 years' service

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Robert C. Veil Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in Mr. Pleasant Cemetery, Cooks. Friends my call at the funeral chapel Tuesday, June 17, from 7-9 p.m.
