Daughter of Alford and Hettie Fryar Abernathy.

She was one of seven children. Following graduation from high school she left Oden to visit family in Michigan where she met the love of her life, John Collins. They married and were the parents of two children.

Julia and John eventually moved back to Oden where she was employed for many years at the Indianapolis Glove Company and then later at the Montgomery County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Collins was an active member of Mount Olive Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir. She could be found in her spare time in her beautiful flowerbeds and garden, bird watching, cooking Sunday meals for the family, camping and going on picnics with the family, or backroading on the "Mule" ATV with John.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Collins, three sisters: Lily May Abernathy, Erma Tarkington, and Nora Ledbetter; two brothers: Buford and Ottis Abernathy.

She is survived by her daughter and son; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; and a host of neieces and nephews, and many special friends.
