Educator. Horace Morrison Hale was Superintendent of Public Education for the Territory of Colorado from 1873 to 1876. After serving as a Regent of the University of Colorado from 1878 to 1884, Hale was named the second President of that institution, and served in that capacity from 1887 to 1892. The Hale Science building-constructed in 1891 in the Richardson Romanesque style on the campus in Boulder-now housing the Department of Anthropology-is named in his honor.
