Respected Citizen of This Village Died Last Monday
Another of Libertyville’s older residents was taken by death last Monday, April 28th, when Frank G. Cleveland passed away at the Washington Park Boulevard hospital in Chicago, where he had gone the latter part of last week for treatment.
His death came as a great shock to his many friends. While his health had been poor for some time, his condition was not generally known to be serious.
He made a trip to Florida during the winter, and returned home only a few weeks ago.
Mr. Cleveland had followed the vocation of railroading practically all the working years of his life, and was one of the oldest locomotive engineers in the employ of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad. His name was third from the top of the oldest engineers of that great railroad system, and was highly regarded by all his associates. He was a courteous gentleman and a loyal friend.
He was born in Galesburg, Ill., December 13, 1859, and was 64 years, 4 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. He was married to Emma Irlin November 10, 1882. To this union were born Laura, now Mrs. Warren W. Grummitt, of Libertyville, and George, who resides in Buenos Ayres, South America. He also leaves three grandchildren and a cousin, Mrs. Lincoln Bissell, of Chicago.
The funeral services were held at the residence at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Smock, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers had their ritualistic service at the house, and at Lakeside cemetery Libertyville Lodge A. F. & A. M. had charge.
