Jesse Oates was enrolled at Tatums, Shelby County, Texas, on February 19, 1862, by O. M. Roberts for 12 months. Company H Muster Roll for November and December 1862 notes that Pvt. J. Oats was left at Little Rock, sick. He was present on the January and February 1863 muster roll, but fell sick again in June, when he was left sick at Trenton. Jesse Oats died at the convalescent camp near Trenton on July 17, 1863.
