Lena Painter Jones, 88, formerly of 1016 E. Ninth, widow of Jonathan Jones, died early today in the Woodland Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was born in Hartford City and later lived in Markleville for several years prior to coming to Muncie. She graduated from Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y.
Mrs. Jones formerly taught school at Markleville and Middletown. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and Muncie Matinee Musicale.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Hallie Pendleton, Pensacola, Fla.; and several other relatives.
Services will be at Meeks Mortuary at 3:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. John Constant officiating. Interment will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 1 p.m. Friday.
