Came from Germany to America on the ship AURANIA out of Liverpool & Queenstown, arriving on 12/8/1885 with a final destination of Kentucky.
Served in the Spanish-American War from 26 April 1898 .to 25 April 1899. He enlisted in Indianapolis, Indiana and was discharged in Savannah, Georgia.He was 5' 5" tall,dark complexion,brown eyes,dark hair, and his occupation was steel worker. On the 8th of December 1898, he was appointed Corporal in Company L of the 160 Infantry Volunteer Regiment of Indiana at Camp Conrad, Georgia

In 1910, Charles wife, Lily, died of Erysipelass leaving 6 small children. Lily's brother, Ernest and his young wife moved in with the Weger family and helped with the care of the children, the youngest of which, Helen, was one year old. Two years later Fannie Elvin, an unmarried aunt,sister of Lily, took charge of the family and lived with them for many years.
