Lester "Barney" Birdsall Yerks, 77, Amenia, died Feb 22 in Sharon, Conn, hospital. A resident of Amenia most of his life, he had been a carpenter and shop instructor at the Wassaic Developmental Center for 20 years. He also had been employed at Maplebrook School, Amenia, for 10 years. He was a member of the Millerton Gun Club and the Webutuck Camera Club. Born December 6, 1905, in Yonkers, he was the son of Bruce and Anna M. Birdsall Yerks. He was married to Elizabeth Miller on November 27, 1934 in Maryland. She survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Yerks is survived by a son, Bruce Yerks of Pleasant Valley; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Haight in Millbrook; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Evans of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Helen Gordon of Eatontown, N.J., and Mrs. Emily Mack of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren.
