PHELPS RITES BE HELD TODAY
FUNERAL AT FUNERAL HOME WITH BURIAL IN MEMORIAL PARK
Charles A. Phelps, who fatally shot himself Tuesday at his home near Kannapolis, will be buried today.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at Whitley's Funeral Home at Kannapolis and burial will be made in Carolina Memorial Park. The body lay in state at the home from 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon till 1 o'clock this afternoon when it was taken to the Whitley Funeral Home to remain till the funeral hour.
The ceremony will be in charge of the Rev. J. S. Tyson of Centerview Baptist Church.
A native of Elbert County, Ga., the deceased had lived in Kannapolis for seven years, coming from near Comer, Madison County, in that state, where he was married to Mrs. Phelps, the former Miss Emma King.
Phelps is survived by his wife, one son, Hugh W. Phelps of the armed forces overseas; one daughter, Mrs. J. C. Drake of Kannapolis, one brother, D. K. Phelps of the navy; two sisters, Mrs. Hoyt Parham and Mrs. E. A. Maxwell, both of Atlanta; three grandchildren.
