Dea. Boutell served on the Quota of Fitchburg. He was a son of James and Judith (Poole)*, born at Sudbury April 1st, 1737.
According to McCarty, he responded to the Lexington Alarm in 1775, having moved to Fitchburg before 1764. Enlisted April 19, 1775, discharged May 4, 1775 with rank of Lieut. and Capt. His grave was marked with an S.A.R. marker.**
Served as 1st lieutenant in Capt. Ebenezer Woods' company during the American Revolution. According to "Tavern Days and the Old Taverns of Fitchburg..."***, he owned a tavern ca. 1764-1803 "at the corner of the Old Turnpike and Rollstone road."
He previously marched from Lancaster to Springfield with a company responding to news of the attack of the French on Ft. Wm. Henry in 1757.
