Retired Businessman Succumbs To Illness In Saginaw General Hospital
Funeral services were held from the Stephenson Funeral Home at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon for Curtis Elbert Thomas, a respected Clare businessman for ten years. Rev. Earl E. Redman officiated, with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.
“Uncle Tom”, as he was known to his many acquaintances, was born the son of Stanley and Callie Thomas, in Graves county, Kentucky, September 29, 1892, and passed away in Saginaw General Hospital, June 18, 1951, at the age of 58 years, eight months and 20 days. Death was caused by carcinoma of the lungs, following a year’s illness.
He was married in Angola, Indiana, February 25, 1935, and the Thomases came to Clare in 1937 and were in business here until 1947 when he retired and operated a farm in Grant township until he passed away.
He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lodge, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks.
He leaves to mourn their loss, the bereaved wife, Mary; a son, Kenneth; three brothers, Cyrus and Richard, of Chicago, and Dewey, of Madisonville, Kentucky; other relatives and many friends.
