Angus P. "Buddy" Nott, age 95, of Live Oak, FL passed away, July 23, 2014 at his home following a brief illness. Buddy was born on December 2, 1918, in Trilby, FL, the son of Leslie E. Nott, Sr., and Willie Holton Nott. He attended school there and graduated from Pasco High School in Dade City in 1935. He was a banker and his career in banking spanned 52 years beginning in St. Petersburg as a messenger at the Union Trust Company. He moved to the First National Bank of Clearwater and then to Live Oak in 1949. He was an officer at the First National Bank (now Bank of America) and in 1968 affiliated with First Commercial Bank (now TD Bank) where he served as President and Chairman of the Board. He served a term on the Board of Directors of the Florida Bankers Association and retired in 1986. He was one of the organizers of CNB Bank and served on the Board of Directors for several years. In 1994 he accepted a volunteer assignment from a government agency to go to Poland and assist in the restructuring of the rural banks after the failure of communism. Buddy was a World War II veteran. His army unit was sent to support the First Marines in the first land offensive of the war against the Japanese on Guadalcanal. He earned a Bronze Star, a Combat Infantryman Badge and a Presidential Unit Citation. He was transferred to the Air Force and earned his aerial gunner wings flying on B-29 bombers. Discharge in October 1945, he returned to his job at the bank in Clearwater. After retiring Buddy ran for and was elected mayor and served 16 years without further opposition. He loved to travel and once flew around the world in 48 hours marking the 50th anniversary of Pan American Airlines. He also visited all 50 states as well as several European countries. Active in local affairs, he was a Mason for more than 65 years, an Elk for more than 50 years, served 13 years as chairman of the Suwannee County Development Authority and vice chairman of the Tourist Development Committee. He also was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, and Shrine Club and served a term on the State ASCS Committee. He served as a lay reader at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and served several terms as a vestryman. He is survived by his wife Linda, two daughters, Carolyn (Grafton) Purdy, Live Oak; Marianne Fullarton, Summerfield, FL; one son, Robert (Tammy) Nott, Crystal River, FL; two step-daughters, Kathy (Ernesto) Gonzalez and Erin (Ken) Cash; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
