MRS. A. C. VOLK SEEKING OFFICE OF ALDERMAN
Mrs. A. C. Volk is announcing for the office of City Alderman subject to the will of the voters in the primary election to be held April 10, 1945, in Bastrop. Mrs. Volk is the second woman ever to seek a Bastrop municipal office, being preceded some years ago by Miss Tina Collins.

Mrs. Volk is a native of Morehouse Parish and her grandfather, Nathaniel S. Arant, homesteaded in the parish. She has been a constant resident of Bastrop for the past 21 years. Mrs. Volk has been active in civic affairs in this community for many years. She was a member of the old Civic League and served on the committee which went before the Police Jury asking for the Board of Health. She also served on a committee which asked for the Bastrop City Park. Mrs. Volk has worked on various committees for a number of years seeking a Parish Library; she was president of the Central P. T. A. and was a director of the Louisiana P. T. A. organization. Mrs. Volk served as chairman of the committee which started the free lunch program at Central School, three years before any state aid was given. She has worked with the American Legion Auxilliary and has been parish chairman of the Red Cross. Mrs. Volk has been active in church circles and is especially interested in Child Welfare and City Sanitation.

SERVICES SET TODAY FOR MRS. L. VOLK'
Services for Mrs. Launa Volk, 90, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with the Rev. William Peoples officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bartholomew Cemetery, with Eastern Star rites.

Mrs. Volk died Thursday night at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly in Mer Rouge after a brief illness.

She was very active for many years in civic and community affairs of the city of Bastrop and Morehouse Parish.

A native of Plantersville, Louisiana, she resided in Morehouse Parish most of her life. She served a a Parent-Teacher Association president and district director; was a charter member of the Potpourri Club and a charter member of the Morehouse Country Club; a mamber of the American Legion Auxiliary; and organized the Bastrop Business and Professional Women's Club.

Also, she organized Circle 3 of the First United Methodist Church and sponsored the purchase of the pipe organ for the church. She served on the Morehouse Library Board, the park commission and the planning commission of the city's parks and recreation department.

Mrs. Volk was the first Morehouse woman selected for jury duty; she served as chairman of the Morehouse Red Cross Chapter; and was a member of the Eastern Star, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a retired realtor.

Mrs. Ray L. Day of Mansfield, LA
Mrs. Van Reech of Mansfield, LA
Seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Volk formed the Bastrop B-PW and Pot Pourri Study Club.
