Talladega County marriage records reflect John W. Bishop and Olivia Montgomery were issued a marriage license on June 20, 1860 and returned it the same day, signed by Minister A. B. McCorkle. ( A "John W. Bishop" was listed in "Alabama: Her History, Resources, War Record and Public Men" c. 1872 by W. Brewer, as a Talladega County state representative in 1841-1843 and senator in 1843-1845, with "J. W. Bishop" a state representative during 1853-1857 )

"Judge John Webster Bishop married Ophelia Montgomery, daughter of James and Sarah (Orr) Montgomery, both natives of South Carolina, where he was a large landowner and slaveholder. After coming to Alabama he became the owner of a large tract of land and at the beginning of the Civil war owned a considerable number of slaves. He died in 1883, and his wife in 1896.
{Judge Bishop] practiced law in Talladega until 1891, when he was elected judge of the city court, and continued in that office until his death, Oct. 10, 1900. His widow lived in Talladega, she and her son, Dr. W. R. Bishop, owned the plantation formerly belonging to her father in 1904. Judge Bishop and wife had six children, three of whom died in infancy. Those living in 1904, were Susie Olive Bishop, Sarah James Bishop, and Wallace Reverdy Bishop. "
