After the death of his daughter William enlisted for military service at the age of 21 during World War II. He served from 1943 thru 1946 before returning home to his wife Helen Virginia, and his parents, brothers Roy Melvin, Elmer Lee, and Raymond Anderson, sisters Wilma Dee, Georgia May, and Edith Alma Lancaster.
William and Helen decided to start their family and enjoy the birth of their sons, William Howard Jr and Gerald W. Shortly after the birth of Gerald, William was called to serve his country again to serve in the Korean War. Again William answered the call leaving his family, returning home .
