Harriet married Isaac Wesley Alderman on February 8, 1844 in LaPorte County, Indiana. He died on February 3, 1877 in Tillamook County Oregon; they had nine children. After Isaac's death, Harriet moved to Lafayette, Yamhill County, Oregon to be near her oldest daughter Mary Ann "Mollie" who had married Robert Phelps Bird there on June 13, 1868. In 1882 Harriet married John Bird, her son-in-law's father, his first wife, Nancy Bland, having died on April 16th of that year. John and Nancy were the parents of four children.
