CALLENDER - William J. Kruse 90, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Callender Cemetery, with Military Rites by VFW Post #1856 of Fort Dodge. Celebration of Life Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating. There is no visitation planned. Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie is in charge of arrangements.

Bill is survived by his wife Dolores; his children, Paula Jurgensen of Callender, Alan Kruse of Prior Lake, Minn., Jerry Kruse of Callender, and Renee Wafful of Clare; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mayme (Bachert) Kruse; brother, John Kruse; and great-grandson Dustin Kruse.

William Junior Kruse was born November 17, 1921 northwest of Moorland, Iowa. He attended schools in Fort Dodge, and graduated from Callender High School and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. In 1942, he served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific as a Corpsman on the USS Lexington, and was honorably discharged in 1945. On August 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Dolores Fiala. The couple made their home in Callender, where Dolores still resides.

During Bill's early life, he worked as an X-ray Technician at the Lutheran Hospital, a filling station employee and tire salesman at the Big 4 Co-op in Callender, and also worked for the Webster Co. Maintenance Department. In his early thirties, Bill established Kruse Electric & Plumbing Co. in Callender which he owned and operated until his retirement.

Bill was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Callender, where he served on the Church Council. He was past President of Webster Co. Historical Society, former Cubmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 42, Commander of American Legion Post #592, and Adjutant of 8th District American Legion. He also had served on the Callender City Council, and was a member of the Callender Community Fire Department since 1945 and Fire Chief for 40 years, before retiring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family discretion.
