Ross was the youngest son of 12 children born to George Gooderham & Harriet Dean.
He married Charlotte Wheeler Taylor at Toronto, Ontario on September 15, 1898.
A graduate of Ridley College and Osgoode Hall, he joined his father's company as second vice-president in 1907 and became its managing director in 1915.
A member of the Queen's Own Rifles of Toronto, he joined the 48th Highlanders as a lieutenant in 1915 and went overseas in command of the 48th Highlanders Company of the 74th Battalion. He later transferred to the Royal Canadian Artillery.
At the time of his death, he was a member of Gooderham and Martin & Co., barristers, and president of the Manufacturers Life Insurance Co
