Her parents were Joseph Stephen Loe, Sr. (1819 – 1900) and his second wife Margaret Addaline Sims Loe (1839 – 1916). She married Solomon L. "Sol" Farris April 1, 1896 in Llano, Texas. They separated within a couple of years. He eventually married again.

Sallie lived in Goree with her daughter Maggie Farris Arnold and family all of her daughter's married life, outliving her son-in-law Harvey D. Arnold. A former school teacher, she was regarded as a harsh disciplinarian by her Arnold grandchildren.
