Henry Bates son of Mr. and Mrs. Storm Bates was born at Hale, Trempealeau County, in 1870. When 14 years of age he moved with his parents to the town of Ludington where he grew to manhood. In 1892, he was married to Lulu Ross and soon after moved to Milaca, Minnesota where they lived for 10 years during which time a son was born who died in infancy. Mrs. Bates also died. In 1902, Mr. Bates returned to Ludington and in 1904, he was married to Angeline Rice of Bridge Creek. Seven children were born to them six of whom are living. For several years, he was active in civic affairs of his community. Mr. Bates had been ill for several months and was taken to Luther Hospital where he died October 18. Surviving are his widow and six children, Mrs. Carl Timm and Mrs. John Anderson, Ludington, Mrs. Leon Nimsger, Eau Claire, Mrs. Geo. Johnson, Augusta, Clause and Clifford at home also four sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were held Monday October 21 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, the Rev. J. T. Agema officiating. The I.O.O.F. lodge of which Mr. Bates was a member conducted the service and six of their number acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the East Side Cemetery.
