Howard was critically injured Oct. 13 as he was helping with the construction of the Hillside Wesleyan Methodist Church. He was riding on a truck being operated by one of the church members, and fell off the truck as it hit a rough spot. A saw used to cut stone also on the truck bed, fell on him. Howard was taken to Marion General Hospital and later that same day was moved to the Indianapolis VA Hospital.
A lifetime resident of Grant County, Mr. Howard was born in Upland and attended Jefferson Township schools. He currently was engaged in farming.
Mr. Howard was a veteran of World War II and served with the 132nd Red Arrow Division. He was wounded in the Battle of Luzon on the Philippine Islands.
Mr. Howard was a member of the George Street Wesleyan Methodist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Milo Bowsman will officiate and burial will be in Grant Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving are the widow, Estle; a daughter, Janet Renee, at home; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Howard, R. R. 5, Marion; four brothers, Walter D., and Richard W., both of Upland; Robert E. and Herbert H., both of Greentown, and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Todd, Warren, and Mrs. Della Mae Ertel, Swayzee.
The body was returned to 814 S. Adams St., where friends may call after 7 p.m. today.
