Walter Edward Blankenship is the son of James Addison Blankenship II and his first wife M Flora Trent. James and Flora had 3 children, a stillborn daughter, Willie, and Walter. They divorced after the death of Willie when Walter was age 5. James later married Elvira Talbott who raised Walter as her own. Walter married Florence Pearl Taylor and they had 12 children. 6 boys and 6 girls.

2. Harold Elwood Blankenship 6 OCTOBER 1925 - 25 FEBRUARY 2004. Harold married Janie Pauline Phillips and had 5 children.
3. Mildred Dean Blankenship 22 January 1928 - 15 September 2011. Mildred married James Everett Robey and had 5 children. She married 2nd Roy Jackson Mock.
4. Sidney Lee Blankenship 3 MAY 1930 - 28 JULY 1977. Sidney married Carleen Bradley and had 4 children.
5. Carl Eugene Blankenship 17 MAY 1932 - 31 JANUARY 2002. Carl married Shelby Fern Eppling and had 6 children.
6. Doris Janet Blankenship 28 July 1934 - . Doris married Samuel Earl Gibbs II and had 5 children.
7. Nancy Mae Blankenship 12 MAY 1936 -. Nancy married Joe Bennett Smith and had 3 children.
8. Etta Kathleen Blankenship 10 AUG 1938 - 7 OCT 1986. Etta was a "special" child and never married or had children. She lived most of her life in a home equipped for her special needs.
9. Robert Franklin Blankenship 4 OCT 1940 - 11 NOV 1995. Robert married Rita Cooper and had 5 children.
10. Billy Edward Blankenship 23 MARCH 1946 - 23 MARCH 1946. Billy was stillborn.
11. Betty Ann Blankenship 12 MAR 1947. Betty married Leonard Ralph Young and had 3 children.
12. Judith Elaine Blankenship 11 JAN 1950. Judith married Darryl Hill and had 2 children.
M Flora Trent b. October 1879 Pittsylvania County, Virginia - d. 18 January 1931. She is the daughter of William Thomas Trent 1839-1899 and Sally Dalton 1850-1927.
After her divorce from James Addison Blankenship II, she married his cousin Charles Blankenship.
Flora is buried at Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery near Walter next to the big Oak Tree. Her stone says Florence Blankenship.
Florence Pearl Taylor is the daughter of John Walter Taylor 1876-1955 and Hattie Virginia Crouch 1882-1954. They were from Bedford, Virginia.
After the death of Florence, Walter went to live in Roanoke with his daughter Doris Gibbs and lived there until his death in 1977. He died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem, Virginia on April 30, 1977 of old age.
