Clarence was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Buckeye Township, Stephenson County, the son of Clarence and Irene (Miller) Barker.
He served his country from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
On July 6, 1946 he married Carol L. Stamm in Winslow. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage. Carol passed away Jan. 24, 2010.
Clarence worked 30 years for IBM Corporation in Aurora. He also owned and operated Barkers Typewriter Services for many years in McConnell.
He was a member of McConnell Legion Post 1225 and served as its Adjutant General, served as Waddam's Township Clerk for many years and was a member of McConnell United Methodist Church in McConnell.
Clarence was a chinchilla rancher for 12 years, and avid card player especially bridge. He enjoyed working with his family genealogy, was a notary public, a businessman and he loved accounting.

Clarence is survived by three daughters, Connie Payette of Eagan, Minn., Cheryl Rankin of Milford, Ohio, and Cynthia (Forrest) Miller of Troutdale, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, Andre (Rachel) and Daniel (Jennifer) Payette, Jeremy (fiancée, Rebecca Ledford), Jonathan, Jared (Angela), Justin and Amanda Rankin, Angela (Brian) Williams, Caitlyn and Hailey Miller; four great-grandchildren, Nolan, Payton, Olivia and Madison; one brother, Merlyn (Betty) Barker of Lena; and one sister, Joyce Scheider of Lena.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Dorothy Donovan.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at McConnell United Methodist Church. Officiating the service are Pastor Doug Carroll and Pastor Bill Blomberg. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory.
