James Monroe Lytal was the son of William "Bill" Lytal and Martha Morse (Smith).

He married Ethel Rachel Sterling on 25 Nov 1904 at Mulberry, AR; they had 5 children: Martha Lee Oma Lytal Ford (buried at Citizens), James Louis, William Henry, Ruby Rachel Lytal Bias Linzy Mower Pace, and Sible "Lorraine" Lytal Huitt Swilley (buried at Citizens).

James & Ethel and family moved to OK near McLain, Muskogee Co., in 1909; in 1912 they moved to Alma, AR, for several years and then moved to Fort Gibson, OK, in 1920.
