Hazel Mae (Thompson) Goodpaster passed away at Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN. at 6:15 PM May 16, 2012. She was born September 25, 1918 in Norwood, OH, to Ernest Merritt and Matilda (Mounce) Merritt. She was married to Luther O. Thompson in Somerset, KY., who also preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Goodpaster was a member of the Sunnycrest Baptist Church, Marion, IN. She was also a member of the Sacred Seniors of the Sunnycrest Baptist church. Hazel was a member of the Life Loving Ladies Red Hatters, and a past Member of the Van Buren Chapter , Order of the Eastern Star. The family of Hazel would like to thank the staff of the Memory Care Unit of Heritage Pointe for their loving care. She is survived by two children, Wanda Troyer of Marion, IN. Rev. Harold (Anna) Thompson of Hamilton, OH., one Daughter-in-Law, Betty Thompson of Portsmouth, OH. Two Step-sons Phil Goodpaster of Deer Park, TX. and Robert Goodpaster of FL. One Sister, Betty Owens of Somerset, KY. Five Grandchildren, Ten Great-Grandchildren and four Great-Great-Grandchildren also survive her. and Also several step-Grandchildren. Hazel also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and Friends. Hazel was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, her 1st husband Luther Thompson, her 2nd husband Mack Price and her 3rd husband Omar Goodpaster. One Step-daughter Beverly Miller, One son Vernon Thompson, Four Sisters, Ernestine Heath, Edith Haynes, Artie Whitaker, Dorothy Wilcher and one Brother, Coy Merritt. Services will be held at the Sunnycrest Baptist Church, Marion, IN. Tuesday May 22, 2012 at 10:30am with pastors Garland Morrison and Terry Sample officiating. Interment to follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN.
