Salmer "Sam" Larson, son of Carl Wilhelm and Anna (Hauglid) Larson, was born July 28 1907 in rural Summit. He was married to Ruth Cleveland on September 14, 1936. They farmed in Iowa for a number of years and Sam later worked in an agricultural industry in Washington state. Upon his return to South Dakota, he worked with his brother Joe in a hay and flax straw business. Sam was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and during his retirement years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and driving his blue Omni. Sam died on August 2, 2003 at the age of 96 years and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and a granddaughter. Survivors include a son, Gene and his wife Phyllis Larson of Chester, Iowa; a daughter, Kay and her husband Olaf Stokstad of Oregon, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Joe and wife Delores of Summit and a number of nieces and nephews.
