Carol Christine Alvine, 59, of Wallingford, Conn., formerly of Montclair, died on Sunday, April 28, at her home. A memorial service will be held at the Biondi Funeral Home, 540 Franklin Ave., Nutley, on Thursday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m., with interment in Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield. Mrs. Alvine was born in Paterson, and graduated from St. Mary's High School and Katharine Gibbs School, and attended Rutgers University, Villa Nova University for Special Curricula, and The New York Times Publicity School. Mrs. Alvine was among the nation's first women to become a licensed detective and fire investigator, and was listed in Who's Who of American Women. She served as vice president and chief administrative officer of William Alvine Associates in Florida, a fire and explosion consulting firm founded by her husband in 1948. She was a member of the National Fire Protection Association. She was also accomplished in publishing, writing children's stories in Braille, poetry, sonnets and gourmet dinner recipes. Mrs. Alvine is survived by her husband of 24 years, William Alvine Sr.; five stepchildren, Marianne, Dyanne, William Jr., Susan and Kevin; a sister, Nancy Flinta of Wildwood, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Robert Alvine of Wood-bridge, Conn.; brothers-in-law, James Alvine Jr., John Alvine and Arnold Alvine, all of Montclair; and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Alvine Memorial Scholarship at the University of New Haven, 300 Orange Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
